On Jo's fantastic effort in the Blogsphere

Jo announced his plans for the bloggers' music album and it got the support and the enthu it deserves. He says-"People from around the world -- USA, UK and India -- who haven't seen each other yet are making an album together! And in 3 different languages. Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi...The songs are in the making and the album will be launched by January 2nd week." Great work, machan, perfect way to start a New Year B)

On RSS/XML Readers

I started using RSS Feeds about a couple of years back. I was working on Vijayann's RoyalStar India portal and and part of the job is selecting latest news and updating in on the portal. So I started adding newsfeeds from several online publication and news sites, expanded to F1, National Geographic, PHP/MySql Forums etc.

I started with Jyte and used it for a long time but was getting a bit bugged with the import/export options. So I started experomentingand went through several like Pluck, NutShell, Awasu, but was not really satisfied with the features. I also started using Bloglines while travelling, but the quest for a my-type-of desktop Reader continued. About 6 months back,I settled down for RSS Reader which has a nice interface, tabbed browser setings etc. The only trouble is the fuck-all resource drain on the system.

About a month back, I guess the quest ended when I chanced across Active Refresh . Fell in love with it after a few days. Very clean interface with an interesting display/reading option, excellent clipboard support, tabbed browsing, non-feed websites access, email feed updates and several program customisation. And it's easy on the resources too, sits in the taskbar when minimised till a neat pop-up informs on updated content. As I write it, I monitor 136 Feeds, including 70 Blogs. Makes life easier without having to head over to every site...

On Wacko Johnson

I've been reading Samatha Burns for a while now and I like her attitude and style and of course, her overall Blog content. I enjoyed reading her latest Moron Of The Week #14
post dedicated to MJ. And she has several links on Wacko tiled "More on the Moron". :]. Great stuff...

Merry Christmas..

CAN Conquer CANcer - Blog Contest - Extended

Blogged on 23-Dec-05 12:04:31 am in Announcements, CAN Conquer CANcer -- Viewed by : Fans

On behalf of Connexions, I’d like to inform everyone that the CAN Conquer CANcer Blog Your Thots Contest has been extended till 10th Jan 2006. At the 1st instance, we hesitated since this is the 2nd extension. The factors mentioned below removed any blocks we had and we decided that the Contest would be extended since it would mean spreading the awareness to a larger audience.

DIGIT magazine is doing a feature on the entire concept of using Blogs and Online contests to raise awareness for the cause of Cancer or other such initiatives, in Jan issue and will be referring to the CCC initiative. With a readership base of 6 Lakhs among the Tech/IT circles, we realized that several readers would be visiting the Contest pages in the 1st week of Jan, only to find that the contest is over. The Contest details just becomes a routine read and probably no further action may be initiated in spreading the awareness.

Some of my MCC Alumni friends in the UK and the US have decided to spread the word about the awareness campaign during the Christmas week in the local publications and community forums.

As part of the awareness campaign, we had sent an email to the Principals / Students Unions of the top 30 educational institutions across the Country. IIM Ahmedabad and MCC, Chennai have already circulated the information in their intranet, Alumni and Students circles. Most of the colleges reopen after X'mas vacations on 2nd Jan and we felt that student community would positively like to get involved in the initiative.

I got a call from Amrut, the owner of the Saarang Blog and the Cultural Sec, Hemant offering to post the information on both the Blog and the Saarang 2006 site. They will also continue to promote the Awareness campaign through till the close of Sarang 2006 (end Jan). Great support from IITM, Chennai, thank you folks..

Sometimes, a few Good Things need not come to an end… :D

I'm also updating the Related Links pages max by tomorrow on the Connexions site and will feature sites related to Cancer, Blogging etc..

As this post gets published, we have 18 Contestant Entries and about 300+ blogs / sites supporting the awareness initiative through banners/buttons and specific mention.

Do update the Contest date extension info in your Blogs, sites and contacts. Thanks once again for the continued support that you have been extending to spread the message that CANcer CAN be Conquered…

Rajny Krishnan - A Sculptor's website

Awaken to meaning

When Rohini's cousin Rajny and I started started talking about showcasing her work online, I wasn't very confident. Now Rajny Krishnan is a talented sculptor / painter and I wasn't sure if I could justify her creativity on the website. She was confident and I started working on it a couple of months back.

She had a huge collection of images in different sizes, resolutions and weight and so spent some quality time PhotoShopping to get them suitable for the web. For design, I've used CSS extensively and the slide-shows were done using some home made concoction of CSS, i-frames and layers. I've used Scott's PZ too in some pages. I loved doing this site, cos I was able to appreciate Rajny's work in full while documenting her creatives and in the process I was able to bring out the creatives in me.

Rajny's personal and Poetry Blogs - Art of the Matter and Art Lines were done using b2evolution as the backend.

After you check out Rajny Krishnan - A Sculptor site, do send some first impressions through the feedback form on her site...
